In nature and in my own artwork I respond to colour, form and texture. I am instinctively true to my early training as a weaver. With my palette of yarns I would combine layers of colour and texture to create a rich material.
My intent is to achieve this level of craftsmanship with my approach to the canvas. In my paintings the imagery is a gentle nod to nature while my palette is still weaving; only now it is weaving with paint. Through the application of collaged materials accompanied by many layers of paint I build up my surfaces before I begin to reconstruct them. This process allows me to explore something that was not lost but always there within the painting.
